Joel Rathjen has been playing guitar since the age of 13 and was love at first strum. Unable to write songs on the drums the guitar seemed like the logical choice. Joel steeped himself in Hard Rock/Metal/Blues in his teen years. In his early 20s he joined the short-lived Edmonton based Power Pop quintet Welcome. Joel traveled Canada with the band and had the opportunity to open up and tour with such bands as Big Sugar, Wide Mouth Mason, 5440, Bif Naked, Matthew Good Band, The Headstones, The Odds, Colin James, etc… Unfortunately the band came to a close and that chapter saw Joel moving into a unique musical experience The Boom Chucka Boys. The band started off as a rockabilly/roots country group and morphed more into a mainstream country rock band with elements in the roots tradition. As lead guitarist and co-writer in the band they have seen 2 top 40 Canadian Country Radio singles. 2014 ACMA group/duo of the year and rising star. and 2014 and 2015 CCMA nominated Group/Duo of the year. They have shared the stage with the likes of Dierks Bentley, Zac Brown band, The Mavericks, Big and Rich, Dean Brody, The Road Hammers, Tim Hicks, Gord Bamford, Doc Walker, Derric Ruttan, among others. Joel has been playing Revv amps since 2014.
Joel plays a Generator 7-40 with 2×12, 1×12, as well as a Dynamis combo.
