Title

The Northern Mauler is a Glenn Fricker signature pedal combining Revv's trademark high gain tones with the unmistakable sound of melodic death metal & metallic hardcore. The "Swedish chainsaw" is the grimy, chaotic sound of metal’s most aggressive genres, but you can also mix it into your traditional high gain tone to add cut, character & make your sound memorable. One half of the Northern Mauler is a custom-tuned Revv high gain amp tone & the other is our homage to the HM-2*. The blend knob gives you total control from 100% Amp Circuit, to 100% Chainsaw Circuit. Use a blend of the tones to transform your clean channel into a metal monster or boost your high gain amp with the Chainsaw circuit.

the complete package

The Northern Mauler is two complete circuits in one pedal. The Amp circuit is a combination of Revv amp tones tweaked specifically for metal & the Chainsaw circuit brings the frostbitten mayhem. While of course you can use either circuit on its own - the real magic is in the Blend knob to dial in your favorite high gain sound & then add in the chaotic & grindy Chainsaw circuit to taste.

The HM-2* is the sound of countless melodic death metal & modern hardcore albums. It provides a sense of danger & an out-of-control tone that demands the listener's attention. Being able to combine that with a modern high gain tone on the fly is a great way to add impact to an important part, or simply stand out from the crown in a subtle, or very not-subtle, way.

the technical details

The Northern Mauler contains two circuits that are combined with the Blend knob: Chainsaw & Amp. The Blend knob at noon provides an equal mix of both tones. Volume & Giv'r (that's Canadian for "Gain") are global, while the circuits have independent controls on the left & right. You can use the Chainsaw circuit to boost a high gain amp by setting Blend 100% to the left.

The point of the Northern Mauler is to sound like yourself - not anyone else! So while it has immense utility as a "melodeath in a box" pedal - you can use it for a wide variety of tones. Try it with more Chainsaw mixed in for a fuzzier sound. Use the Amp circuit on its own for "traditional" metal & punk tones. Check out the lower gain (sorry, Giv'r) settings for oldschool soloing.

Title

Glenn Fricker is one of Revv’s earliest supporters & a lifelong opponent of stale, sterile guitar tone. Together, we set out to combine Revv’s trademark high gain tones with a sound inspired by the legendary HM-2* with the Northern Mauler. Glenn often records a grindy, out-of-control sounding pair of rhythm guitars to blend in with more traditional high gain sounds, so we combined both into one pedal with a blend knob! He also wanted a not-quite-Red, not-quite-Purple channel tone for the Amp side, so we dialed in a thick but still punchy high gain amp sound that's unique to the Northern Mauler. This two-in-one format is a much more convenient way of getting that blended tone when playing live or writing.

Title

Everything about the Northern Mauler is pretty unique in the Revv lineup. We didn't base the Chainsaw circuit on any specific example of an HM-2* or the other pedals it's inspired - it's our own take on that sound. Similarly, the Amp circuit isn't exactly the Red channel or Purple channel, it's somewhere in the middle to give you the most flexibility when blending it with the Chainsaw circuit. We also know a lot of players using it as just an HM-2* style or amp-in-a-box pedal without even using the blend. It's up to you!
